In Taiwan it is normal practice to offer employees a bonus for Chinese New Year. Sometimes this is written into job offers and employment agreements as "we offer 13 months salary" or something like that. While it is no requirement to pay any bonus, in practice most companies will pay something. If not one or more whole months at least a red envelope with a few thousand in it.
