The most commonly used company types are limited company (you xian gong si) and company limited by shares (gu fen you xian gong si). The capital requirement for the former is NT$500,000 and the latter is NT$1,000,000.

A foreign company may also establish a branch office of the foreign company in Taiwan. The paid-in funding requirement would depend upon the company type of foreign company. A branch office, under local law, is considered part of the parent and is not, per se, a distinct legal entity.

A foreign company may also establish a representative office of the foreign company in Taiwan. There are no minimum investments or capital requirements for a representative office. A representative office is not an incorporated entity.
